December 31, 2013

Frustrated. A little depressed. I haven't been in the studio in several weeks. First the motorcycle and then I got sick and my voice became gravelly. Don't know when I'm going to get to finish this thing.

December 3, 2013

Crashed on my motorcycle last Saturday! The bike is banged up worse than I am. I've got some scrapes and bruises but nothing more serious. No work on the podcast yesterday. Postponed until next week.

November 25, 2013

Just a few details to finish up. I reviewed the first episode with Clint yesterday and it sounds really good! I now need to figure out how to post/publish/advertise my podcasts.

November 19, 2013

Yesterday I added three of Aesop's fables and the lyrics to a song called "Friendly Neighborhood Narco Agent". I have twenty minutes of content recorded and need just ten minutes more. I think that with some introductory material I will be where I need to be. Next week we should have episode 1 finished. For episode 2 I want to do some seasonal material such as a speech from John F. Kennedy and something about Thanksgiving.

November 11, 2013

Today I made progress in my podcasting journey. Clint, Dave and I laid down the first two stories of the first episode. I also have the theme music and bumper music ready. I have, including the music, about 15 minutes of "show" in the can. With one or two more stories and some intro/outro stuff I should be at the 30 minute goal. The first "story" I read was a poem by Shel Silverstein called "Sarah Silvia Cynthia Stout Would Not Take the Garbage Out" and the second story was a Cherokee myth about the sun and the moon. I'm back in studio on the 18th to finish it up.

November 4, 2013

I am checking websites for inexpensive music and bumpers. Clint referred me to a couple of sites that I think may be fruitful. I hope to have the music part of this project completed by the end of the week and have my first episode of Story Time "in the can" by early November.

October 8, 2013

Clint (my engineer) and I recorded a chapter of Quo Vadis but with all of the engineering involved it took two and a half hours to get it "in the can". Two-and-a-half hours a week is outside my budget and at one chapter per week it would take over a year to finish recording the whole book. I've come up with another idea. Read short stories instead. It would take less time and I think I can come up with enough antiquarian titles to make the show viable. The other thing I am going to do is buy some royalty-free music for a theme and for bumpers. Clint thinks we should limit the show to 30 minutes. I wanted to go an hour. I think maybe Clint is right. It would keep the costs down and might better keep my listeners interest. I hope to get started on the new format sometime this month.

August 13, 2013

I spoke with Clint who has been my engineer for voiceovers for the past year. We're tenatively scheduled to begin the recordings in early September. I am on vacation From the 1st to the 14th and so it would be a great opportunity to get started. The book is 78 chapters long. I am considering reading two chapters per week but it depends on how long it takes me to read both chapters. I want to keep each podcast to no longer than an hour. One of the other things I have to decide is where I am going to have the podcast feed posted (i-tunes?).

July 30, 2013

I am creating this blog in support of a podcast that I plan on creating soon called "Story Time".  The podcast will consist of stories, more than likely novels, that I will read.  I plan on podcasting weekly probably recording one to two chapters a week.  I originally planned on recording romance novels and I actually purchased a trilogy of novels by Barbara Cartland.  I want to podcast because podcasting will raise my profile as a voice over artist.  I want to read books because I see a nitch in the podcasting market that I think I can serve and I want to read romance novels because my voice seems to appeal to women particularly middle-aged women.  Anyway, for the time being romance novels are out because of copyright issues.  I don't want to run afoul of the law.  My lastest idea for the podcast is a book by Henryk Sienkiewicz called "Quo Vadis?"  The novel was written over one hundred years ago so there are no copyright issues, I have read the book and find it fascinating and it is a romance novel of sorts - a romantic adventure story.
